Chambliss was deferred from VietNam to go to law school & then because he had a bad knee. Anyone seen him limping? Cathy can be as tough as any of these chickenhawks. Besides, who among them is going to go mano-a-mano with a terrorist? What I'd like to see is a lot more diplomacy, less cowboy posturing, and 100% more gravitas. This country is being run like a B-movie.
I don't know. No question that she could do as great job, but she'd have to start a run very soon in order to raise the money. I'm betting that she postpones any decisions until after the November elections. If Taylor wins, the senate may look appealing. If he loses, then the governor's race may draw her back. But, I gotta tell you- if the DPG doesn't get our act togehter, we're not going to be able to elect anyone in statewide races. How about Cox for DPG chair? She could use her organizational and fundraising skills to build a machine that helps all democratic candidates, including herself.
Maybe I'm just being disaggreable this afternoon. But I don't see it. I don't think Cathy has any real interest in the senate. And even though she's a good fundraiser, trying to build for another statewide run in 2008 after having lost in 2006 would be hard to do.
I think the best idea I've heard is for her to take a party job and see what's available for 2010. By then, Shirley Franklin may have either tossed her hat in the ring for US senate or made her intentions known about running for governor herself.
One thing is for sure. Cathy will have a plan. And she'll learn from this experience. The good ones always do.
My experience "being political" these past couple of years has shown me that the Georgia Democratic Party has got to get both feet in the same century. And once that is accomplished, those feet need to be traveling the state. Most Democratic county organizations need strengthening---some even need identifying---or even deleting and replacing.
