Cox Volunteers Ready to Hit the Streets

On Thursday night, scores of Cox volunteers gathered in Macon and in Atlanta to prepare to dial phones, knock on doors, provide rides to the polls and many other GOTV activities. It really is remarkable to see a diverse group of people respond to an opportunity to help elect this remarkable women. In Macon, the group included students, professionals and others who are willing to commit time the week before and day of the election. These folks are not being paid. Instead, they are investing their time and energy in a change that can benefit all of us. This is going to be a different kind of election.

The Sierra Club of Georgia is also independently organizing volunteer efforts for Cathy and other favorite candidates of mine, including Drenner, Thornell, and Orrock. Cox's transportation agenda probably has something to do with their decision to support Cox over Taylor. Like many other issues, Cox has a workable plan and we're not sure if Taylor even has a clue.

It was a fun evening. Jourdan Haynes chaired our meeting in Atlanta and gave a great presentation. He also brought lots of goodies: signs, stickers, t-shirts, the works. You're going to be dead jealous of the huge CC sign he brought me. It's basically a mini billboard. Now I just need to figure out how to install it in front of our building.

PS. Amy did you notice Button has a new blog?

Way to go! Macon is a very lively political arena this year, and we can thank Amy Morton, among others, for making it happen!

I would be very comfortable asserting that Cathy's donor base is much much diverse in terms of age, race and gender than is Mark's or Sonny's. It is also much more diverse in terms of inclusion of low dollar donors. She has involved people in the political process who had previously been relegrated to the cheap seats , or not allowed in at all. Mark's campaign is a pretty typical picture of politics as usual in Georgia, and this electin is going to be every bit as much a referendum on a new way of doing politics vs. the politics of yesterday as it is on Mark and Cathy.

I am going out on a limb and predict that the debates will put Cox well ahead and there will not be a runoff.

You might be right Ed. But lets hope and pray that we don't have a runoff. That would mean 3 more weeks of attacking each other rather than Perdue. At some point, I'm hoping those pushing for a runoff will come to their senses and think about the future.
