Nationally, the Republicans have marginalized themselves, mostly through "the war on terror". Locally, they may do the same with their constant attempts to subvert the will of the people on our nonpartisan judiciary.
Being the party in power comes with all kinds of responsibilities and opportunities. The Republicans have handled this terribly since 2000, more importantly since 9/11. That should give us tremendous hope nationally because we're seeing more and more Americans moving towards the center and away from the ideas and policies of Bush/Cheney and the neo-cons.
If they lose in 2008, they'll have no one else but themselves to blame. Their marginalization is a self-inflicted wound. And it's a lesson that we all need to learn.
