Imagine my lack of surprise when I opened my mailbox today and found that Vernon Jones had again used a photograph of Obama in a mailer. This time Jones, who has no shame, upped the ante by also using pictures of Senators Edward Brooke, III, of Massachusetts and Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois. Jones also invited voters to make it "2-for-1!" on August 5, suggesting that Obama is on the same ballot as him by putting his name beside Obama's with red checks beside both. Voters may be disappointed to learn they cannot vote for Obama on August 5.
It takes a huge amount of hubris and a frank disrespect for Senator Obama, our party's nominee for President, to again appropriate his image for political gain despite a clear lack of permission from Obama. I would say that Vernon Jones should be ashamed, but I see no evidence that he has that capacity.

As to the subject matter of this post: doesn't it undermine Vernon's political front to lie so frankly to the people he intends to get a vote from?
This is a piece pointing out the historic potential of this race, and yes, that is used to inspire and motivate his base voters.
Claire McCaskill did the same thing when running for Governor of Missouri in 2004 (and I'm sure countless others have done the same). I don't think we'd see the same reaction here in that case! It worked, we switched message with two weeks to go (I was running the coordinated campaign for STL) and pitched statewide that Claire would become the first female Governor of Missouri. She closed at least 5-7% in the polls with that message and female turnout increased. In fact, our campaign increased Democratic turnout by over a quarter million votes that year.
It's GOTV time, not persuasion time, and it's a runoff with low turnout. It's all about turnout and the historic element is just as important at this stage of the game than anything else.
On the heels of the first piece, Mike, and with a rebuke from Obama in his pocket, all this piece demonstates is a desire to confuse voters. I am on my way to a Macon event for Jim. Check back for photographs.
